AAP MLA joins arhtiyas’ protest over gradual tempo of lifting in Faridkot
Faridkot, April 22
To lodge his protest in opposition to the tardy lifting of procured wheat from the grain market in Faridkot, AAP MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon right now sat on a dharna in entrance of the market committee workplace.
He alleged the lifting course of was badly infested with corruption and it wanted rectification. The MLA joined arhtiyas (fee brokers) who’ve been protesting in opposition to a personal contractor for the gradual tempo of lifting for the previous three days. Alleging the tardy lifting had induced the scarcity of area within the grain markets, arhtiyas accused the contractors (who’ve been allotted the labour and cartage work) of not offering enough transporting autos and labourers, forcing them to fend for themselves to ship procured wheat to the meals company shops.
Sekhon ended his protest dharna after SDM Baljeet Kaur met the protesters and accepted a memorandum. The SDM stated the contactor had assured of constructing speedy lifting of the wheat.
To this point, 3,51,998 metric tonne (MT) wheat has arrived at 68 procurement centres in Faridkot. Of the entire arrival, 1,67,045 MT had been lifted, claimed the SDM. Jaspreet Kaur, District Meals and Provide Controller, couldn’t be contacted.
As per the norms, it’s necessary for a contractor to raise the produce from the grain market inside 72 hours of procurement. Nonetheless, complaints of tardy lifting are widespread as a result of political affect of contractors. —
