CHANDIGARH: Punjab Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, on Wednesday, directed all of the street proudly owning departments and companies to finish the rectification work of all unintentional black spots on state and nationwide highways within the state on the earliest to cut back the mortality charge in street accidents.

Of which, 292 black spots had been recognized on Nationwide Highways, 96 black spots are on State Highways/ODR/MDR, 9 black spot are on Village Roads and 10 black spots are on Municipal roads.

The Minister categorically talked about that street accident black spot on Nationwide Highways, a street stretch of about 500m in size wherein both 5 street accidents (involving fatalities/grievous accidents) happened over the last three calendar years or 10 fatalities happened over the last three calendar years as per the Ministry of Street Transport & Highways (MoRTH). He stated that Punjab adopted this definition of unintentional black spot on Nationwide Highways, for the complete state overlaying all Highways and undertaken this activity of identification and rectification of unintentional black spots in Punjab and entrusted this joint activity to Punjab Police, Transport Division and Protected Punjab Programme.

Appreciating the work of NHAI and different street proudly owning departments corresponding to PWD (B&R), Native Govt and Punjab Mandi Board, Transport Minister urged them to rectify all of the black spots identifies in phase-2 program due to the truth that greater than 65 per cent of street accidents and fatalities happens on Nationwide and State Highways within the State.
