Punjab IAS officer held for bribery
CHANDIGARH:The Punjab vigilance arrested Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Popli and his secretary on corruption expenses.As per the FIR, Popli allegedly sought one per cent fee from a contractor of a Rs 7 crore sewerage venture within the Nawanshahr city throughout the earlier Congress regime.
The contractor paid Rs 3.5 lakh by way of Sanjeev Vats, a Superintendent-level official posted as secretary to the officer, who was heading the Water Provide and Sewerage Board, on January 12.
The officers stated Popli was looking for the remaining Rs 3.5 lakh from the contractor, who recorded his cellphone calls and complained on the anti-corruption helpline arrange by the current Aam Aadmi Social gathering (AAP) authorities.
The officer was arrested from his home in Chandigarh on Monday night.
