Bathinda farmer booked for ‘mining’, BKU protests

Bathinda, June 23

Scores of farmers below the banner of the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) staged a protest outdoors the District Administrative Complicated, demanding cancellation of a case registered towards a farmer below the Mining Act in Bathinda on Thursday.

Farmers drove scores of earth movers and tractors and raised slogans towards the administration. The protetsing farmers blocked Bathinda-Mansa Street, thereby inflicting inconvenience to commuters.

Kulwant Sharma, chief (Sangat block), BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), stated, “A false case has been registered towards a farmer for lifting soil from his fields to degree it. We don’t have to take permission from anybody for working in our fields.”

“He has been booked below the Mining Act. We demand that case towards the farmer should be cancelled or we might be pressured to accentuate our stir. We’ve got submitted a memorandum to senior officers on this regard,” stated Sharma.
