Sangrur: Sugarcane growers refuse to finish protest

Sugarcane growers have refused to finish their protest, which began yesterday. They’ve been demanding that the Dhuri sugar mill and the federal government launch round Rs 9-crore dues, which have been pending for months.
Officers are working to finalise the following date for the public sale of the mill to get better the cash, after it acquired cancelled on Wednesday.
“To advertise agriculture diversification, the federal government has been making large claims of offering assist to farmers. However their claims are solely on paper, the authorities have didn’t launch our fee, even months after the acquisition of our crop.
Sugarcane Growers’ Wrestle Committee members have threatened to accentuate their stir, if the authorities fail to get their fee launched. Two members have been sitting atop the chimney of the mill since Wednesday and refuse to return down.
“We are attempting to persuade the farmers to finish their protest as we have to full the mill’s public sale,” stated SDM Amit Gupta.
