Sale-purchase document sought
Sources say the I-T Division has issued notices to arhtiyas (licensed fee brokers), directing them to submit a reply by November 26 for not exhibiting corresponding sale-purchase account of agriculture produce of their ITRs
Sources stated the division issued notices to the ‘kutcha’ arhtiyas (licensed fee brokers for agriculture produce) on November 11, directing them to submit reply until November 26 for not exhibiting corresponding sale-purchase account of agriculture produce of their ITRs. The fee brokers maintained that in response to the round issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes in 1986 it had been clarified that so far as ‘kutcha’ arhtiyas had been involved their turnover/sale didn’t embody gross sales on behalf of the principal — farmers — and solely gross fee had be thought of.
Davinder Sachdeva, president, Arhtiya Affiliation, Fazilka, stated ‘kutcha’ arhtiyas act solely as an agent for his constituent and by no means as a principal. Sachdeva stated they bought farmers’ produce to factories, mills and retailers and in lieu charged 2.5 per cent fee.
