DGP: Village defence panels to be revived

DGP Gaurav Yadav at the moment introduced the revival of village defence committees (VDC) to verify crime.

Addressing officers, the DGP directed them to make sure efficient motion towards drug smugglers and gangsters. He requested them to invoke the Illegal Actions (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in terror actions.

The VDC would comprise trusted individuals of village, together with retired police or Military personnel and authorities officers.

“These committees will work as eyes and ears of the police and complement the efforts of the Punjab Police to wipe out medicine, gangsters and terrorists from the border state,” stated the DGP.

He additionally requested the SHOs to determine drug hotspots beneath their jurisdiction and lay concentrate on psychotropic medicine to finish the menace. He warned that the SHOs involved could be held accountable in case of leniency.
