Delhi L-G reconvenes MCD Home to elect mayor on Feb 16


NEW DELHI: After three unsuccessful conferences of the MCD Home to carry the mayoral elections, Delhi’s civic physique will meet on Thursday to elect the mayor, deputy mayor and the members of standing committee.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.Okay. Saxena has accepted a proposal by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to carry the elections on February 16, the L-G workplace stated on Sunday.

The MCD Presiding Officer had stated that the polls to elect mayor, deputy mayor and Standing Committee members shall be held concurrently. She additionally stated that as per the DMC Act, aldermen are eligible to vote within the mayor, deputy mayor polls.

Nonetheless, the AAP councillors protested vehemently in opposition to the aldermen being allowed to vote. AAP’s Councillor and Chief of the Home Mukesh Goel had stated, “The Supreme Court docket order clearly says that aldermen can solely vote in ward committee polls however can’t vote within the mayor polls.
